IMessage needs a data connection to work, so you need to make sure you've got 3G or 4G available, or a good WiFi signal. If your Messages app has a lot of photos and videos it might slow down. IMessage issues are tricky to know and understand as for why they are occurring because, at some point, such issues only happen when your device is slow and running out of memory. When activating iMessage or FaceTime, you might see one of these messages:

Check your device settings

Still not activated after a day?

It might take up to 24 hours to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If the issue continues after 24 hours, follow these steps:

3. If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles make sure you can send and receive international SMS.
